16-Year-Old Shooting Witness Suffered Fatal Asthma Attack During Shooting That Killed 2

Two people were fatally shot, two more were wounded and a 16-year-old witness suffered a fatal asthma attack during a shooting on Thursday morning in Back of the Yards, according to police.

The shooting happened in the 800 block of W. 50th Pl. The offender fired shots at a group that was standing in the street and on the sidewalk, police said. A female, 33, suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was pronounced dead at St. Bernard Hospital. A man, 25, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck and chest. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two people were also wounded, but not fatally, in the shooting: A 21-year-old female was transported to St. Bernard Hospital after being shot in the left hand. She was listed in stable condition. And a 25-year-old female suffered two gunshot wounds to the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital and listed in stable condition.

The 16-year-old who witnessed the shooting and suffered an asthma attack was pronounced dead at 2:05 a.m. at St. Bernard Hospital, according to police.

The gathering was a block-party celebration in honor of the 25th birthday of a man who was shot to death in the vicinity four years prior, according to the Tribune.

As of Thursday morning, police did not have any suspects or anyone in custody.
