Video: Chance The Rapper Shares New Song In Nike Clip

By Stephen Gossett in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 10, 2016 6:21PM

Hip-hop local hero Chance the Rapper unveiled a short, new song called "We the People" on Wednesday in a Nike ad/video. The clip also features images of the United States Men’s and Women’s National teams and a big, projected American flag. (We’re definitely in Olympic season.) But Chance’s earnest lyrics and vulnerable delivery keep the enterprise on the right side of the inspirational-versus-nationalistic coin that these campaigns tend to toss.

It's the first new song from Chance since he performed a Muhammad Ali tribute at last month's ESPY Awards. The rapper also announced in July he'll be spearheading the first music festival to be held at US Cellular Field, Magnificent Coloring Day, on Sept. 24.

By the way if the clip leaves you feeling a nagging sense of déjà vu, you’re not crazy: It was just in late July that another beloved Chicago-native rapper released a tastefully black-and-white clip in conjunction with an apparel brand. Your move, Vic Mensa?

Check out the Chance/Nike team-up, called “Unlimited Together,” below. As Pitchfork points out, the lyrics can also be found on Genius.
