We tend to be somewhat suspicious of adult-sport trends, especially those with kitschy, throwback-y vibes. (We are a cornhole culture, and we will defend it against all ironic usurpers, damnit.) But ever since we laid eyes on Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Gowanus back in 2014, we’ve secretly hoped this would be one Brooklyn trend that filters its way into Chicago.
Now, according to a report published on Wednesday by Crain’s, such a plan is indeed in the mail. Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club’s second location will be in Wicker Park. It’ll set up play at what’s currently a 17,000-square-foot warehouse, located at 1760 N. Milwaukee Ave., just south of the 606 ramp at Milwaukee and N. Leavitt St.
That’s a plum piece of real estate and—given the size of the property—it seems to be a pretty perfect dovetail for all involved. Although the space will have to be re-zoned, from manufacturing to business, Crain’s reports.
The project is hoped to be completed by summer of 2017. In the meantime, check out some slick photos of the NYC location from Gothamist and start getting your deck attire in order.
Chicagoist has reached out to Royal Palms for more information and will update this post accordingly.
