The annual Air and Water Show is on for this weekend, and the CTA is hoping to avoid a transit nightmare by increasing service all weekend long.
In addition to the annual lakefront spectacle, Wrigley Field could be mad scene Saturday night, with Pearl Jam playing a concert. To address the Air and Water show, the CTA said in a press release that it will be increasing rail service on the Blue, Brown, Green and Orange Lines Saturday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to accommodate Loop-bound spectators. Meanwhile, the CTA will provide extra #72 North Avenue and #151 Sheridan bus service.
Next, the matter of Wrigley Field's excitable rock fans: Pearl Jam is playing Saturday Aug. 20 and again Monday, Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Billy Joel is playing at the field Friday, Aug. 26, and Luke Bryan is playing Saturday, Aug. 27. To help concert goers out, the CTA is providing extra #80 Irving Park and #152 Addison bus service the evening of each concert.
The CTA is also planning ahead for a Bears pre-season game next week. The bears are playing the Kansas City Chiefs at Soldier Field next Saturday, Aug. 27 at noon, and the CTA will be running extra #128 Soldier Field Express buses between Union Station, Ogilvie and Soldier Field to help out out-of-towners, while extra #146 express buses will run to and from the game and the lakefront.
