Rachael Yamagata's New 'Over' Video Is A Fiery Slow Burn

Rachael Yamagata has come a long way since she was the smoky-voiced frontwoman for Chicago's Bumpus. Since then she's appeared on The OC (?!) and built a solid solo career as a singer-songwriter type. What's always impressed us is the unwavering way she's followed her muse, which has led her into deeply uncommercial territory at times. But her music has always been emotionally affecting.

Her latest song, "Over," off her upcoming, fourth album Tightrope Walker, shows Yamagata moving a little closer to more conventional territory again. The tune is a slow burn of longing and loss that's tempered by a shuffling beat and tastefully dropped-in guitar squalls amidst the more conventional song structure and a burbling synth beat. It definitely has us looking forward to the rest of the new album.
