Two Men Were Shot By State Police In Auburn Gresham

Illinois state troopers shot two men—one of whom was allegedly armed—in Auburn Gresham on Thursday night, according to state police.

A cab driver approached state police who were conducting a traffic stop near West 77th Street. and South Vincennes Avenue. at around 8:30 p.m. He told the ISP troopers that his two passengers in the backseat refused to pay their fare. While state police were speaking with the two passengers, one pulled a gun from his pocket and ignored commands to drop the weapon, according to a statement sent to Chicagoist. Police shot the armed man twice in the lower torso; the second passenger was shot in the toe, according to the statement.

Both men were taken to Chicago hospitals. One man, 23, was released and is in police custody, as of Friday morning. The second person, 25, is in stable condition at Stroger Hospital.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, Illinois state police said.
