A Bike Cop Was Struck By A Car In The Loop On Tuesday

A bike-patrol police officer was hit by a vehicle downtown while responding to a call on Tuesday, according to police.
The officer was struck at about 2:15 p.m. in the 0-99 block of South State St. after receiving a call. He was not seriously hurt and was listed in good condition after being taken to Northwestern Hospital, police told Chicagoist. The driver, a 30-year-old man, stayed on the scene after the collision. A police spokeswoman said the driver was issued citations for failure to yield to a police vehicle and carrying no insurance.
An image reportedly taken at the scene by an eyewitness shows the officer's bike lodged underneath a Mercedes-Benz SUV. The officer was making a U-turn on the bike when he was struck, according to the Imgur post.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon a 20-year-old male cyclist was critically injured while riding in Portage Park. According to police, that victim was doored by a parked car then struck by a moving car at around 1:40 p.m.
