As you already know if you’ve been outside today, the weather today is pretty gross—and it’s probably going to remain that way through the afternoon.
Conditions will be “uncomfortably hot and humid,” according to a special weather statement posted on Wednesday by the National Weather Service of Chicago. Temperatures are expected to hover around 90 degrees, with the afternoon heat index topping off between 100 and 105 degrees. NWS urges people to avoid any extended outdoor activity and, as always, keep an eye on the little ones, pets and the elderly. The heat is expected to begin breaking sometime around 4 p.m.
As temps dip, thunderstorms become more likely in the late evening. According to the National Weather Service, heavy downpours are highly probable in the Chicago area between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.
