Thousands gathered on the city's West Side Sunday to take in the annual Mexican Independence Day Parade.
The annual celebration commemorates the beginning of the Mexican War for Independence from Spain on Sept. 16, 1810. Chicago is the second-most popular U.S. city for Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans to settle, and Little Village is one of Chicago's predominantly Latino neighborhoods.
Thousands lined 26th Street to watch the parade of floats, mariachi bands, and dancers in costumes. Our photographer Tyler LaRiviere was there to capture the festivities. Gov. Bruce Rauner was also there to shake hands in his now-signature cowboy hat.
