A second shooting along the Eisenhower Expressway has left a man dead, roughly six hours after another shooting killed one man and critically injured his girlfriend, according to Illinois State Police.
The second shooting happened in the eastbound lanes of I-290—the opposite side of the expressway as Thursday morning's first attack—at Central Avenue, around 12:00 p.m, ISP said in a statement sent to Chicagoist. A male passenger suffered a fatal gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Family members have identified him as Devon Almon, according to CBS.The female driver of the vehicle did not suffer injuries, according to police.
The shooting happened just hours after Johnathon Ortiz was killed and Alexis Garcia was critically wounded by gunfire at around 6 a.m. while driving westbound, near Laramie Avenue.
The I-290 eastbound ramp to Central Avenue was closed while investigators work the scene. ISP advises drivers to seek alternate routes. All westbound lanes were closed Thursday morning between California and Central Avenues until about 9:30 a.m.
The most recent attack was the 41st shooting on Chicagoland area expressways this year, according to ISP, up from 39 throughout 2015.
