Photos: Activists Say 'F* The Cis-tem' At Vigil For Trans Woman Killed On West Side

Over one hundred people gathered in Lakeview Wednesday night to hold a vigil and march for T.T. Saffore, who was brutally killed on the West Side last month.

Saffore was a 27-year-old trans woman, according to friends and family, who told Windy City Times she was "a beautiful person" and a good friend. She was found by police with her throat slit and a knife near her body in the 4500 block of West Monroe Street on Sept. 11. Many community members believe her death was not random, but a hate crime.

Many who gathered for the vigil Wednesday night, which later turned into a march through Lakeview, held signs that said "Fuck The Cistem"—a reference to systemic societal biases against people who are not cisgender—"Black Lives Matter" and "Kill Transphobia." The group briefly blocked traffic near Belmont Avenue and Halsted Street.
