A Great Cubs Human Interest Story Not About A Nonagenarian!

The logic is pretty simple: The Cubs century-plus championship drought means there a whole lot of elderly, jilted fans out there. And there's no denying, some of those tales—if not all—are well and truly remarkable. But even an oldster's game like baseball is ostensibly for the kids, which is why this one thrilled us, too.

A Chicago-area kid who was accidentally knocked out by an Indians fan at Game One in Cleveland (yep, you read that correctly) is heading back to the World Series, to Game Three in Chicago, courtesy of the Cleveland Indians.

Things were going well enough for David Wallach and his seven-year-old son, Johnny, while they took in the series opener at Progressive Field. But soon the Indians' runs starting coming in, and the elbows in the bleachers began flying. Johnny was accidentally clocked by a celebrating fan and was knocked cold for 30 seconds, David told NBC.

"He spun around and I caught him, he was crying hysterically,” Wallach said. “That’s when things kind of went off the rails. Things went from being a dream to a nightmare so quickly."

The kid even got heckled as they left the stands in search of help, according to his father, just in case you needed another reason to dislike some Indians fans aside from casual racism. He even had to be taken to the hospital, where the father and son were stuck all night.

Buuuut as you already know the third act was a redemptive one: the Indians told the Wallach family on Thursday that they arranged two tickets for the third game, at the presumably much-friendlier confines.

So, if you're lucky enough to be taking in Game Three at Wrigley Field, please be mindful to celebrate your arms up and not out should the Cubs find success!
