Golfwear proprietor, Tom Hanks doppelganger and White House press-room crasher Bill Murray will soon have a new descriptor—and it may very well be the Cubs lifer’s favorite: World Series signer. Murray, a Chicagoland native but international treasure, will perform “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch at Friday night’s Game Three of the Fall Classic at Wrigley Field. If you happen to live in a cave with your eyes closed and your fingers in your ears, it's the Cubs' first home World Series game in 71 years.
Way to go, Bill. We couldn't be more thrilled for you. If the big moment once again chokes up your heroic deadpan, we'll understand.
The national anthem will be performed by Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump, who truly can't help that's he's not Bill Murray, so be nice. Longtime Cubs PA announcer Wayne Messmer is scheduled to sing "God Bless America" during the pregame.
In the meantime, here's some Cubs-y Murray content to get you jazzed.
