Billy Corgan Is Taking Shots At Fairweather Celebrity Cubs Fans

Maybe he was a bit irritated because he saw the impending failure of his lawsuit against TNA Wrestling, or maybe there was lingering resentment that the Smashing Pumpkins weren't nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (unlike Pearl Jam and their fellow Cubs-loving frontman, Eddie Vedder). Or maybe it was just Billy Corgan being Billy Corgan.
Whatever the case, the lovably cranky (and at times just cranky) Pumpkins singer is apparently none to thrilled with bandwagon-hopping Cubs celebu-fans as the North Side team seeks a long-elusive third World Series title.
"I don’t talk to other Cubs celebrities,” Corgan told the Tribune on Saturday. “In fact, I’m anti-Cubs celebrity. Although I know a few Cubs celebrities, other Cubs celebrities tend to show up when the playoffs are around. I don’t necessarily see them in June. I might be a little biased being a Chicagoan year-round.”
J'accuse, Vince Vaughn!
The best counter-dig goes to Jon Greenberg, not a celebrity fan, but editor at the standout Chicago sports blog The Athletic:
Why do I get the feeling other celebrity Cubs fans aren't dying to talk to Billy Corgan either? (Via @ChrisKuc) pic.twitter.com/sarmjlSBmQ
