People love Cubs predictions, and they love naming babies Clark and Addison, and now worlds are colliding: The Cubs' epic, once-in-a-century World Series win last week has inspired some to predict a Chicago baby boom on the way.
A writer for Bravo TV made the prediction last week, on the heels of the team's victory, looking to other sports team victories in recent history for evidence. For example, after the Kansa City Royals won the World Series in 2014, an area hospital reported a large spike in births about 9 months later. Boston also experienced a similar phenomenon in 2005, after the Red Sox's World Series win. And Barcelona's 2009 Champions League victory is credited with bringing Spain's birth rate up by 16 percent in 2010. The children born that year were dubbed "the Iniesta Generation," because player Andres Iniesta scored the winning goal. A recent Super Bowl ad is centered around this phenomenon.
So...does that mean Chicago has a "Montero Generation" or a "Zobrist Generation" on the way? Given the correlation between epic sports celebrations (fueled by, presumably, lots of alcohol) and unplanned pregnancies, this prediction seems to check out. There were 5 million people celebrating the Cubs' parade and rally in person on Friday morning. At least some of them probably bumped groins after?
We already know Clark and Addison make adorable baby names. But Forbes guesses that some other popular baby names that could come out of the World Series would be "Wrigley," "Sheffield," (Chicagoist's official favorite dog name) or "Ben," as in Zobrist, the Series' MVP. Addison was already one of the most popular girls' names for babies born in Illinois in 2015, according to the Social Security Administration, and Benjamin is consistently a popular boys' name. Clark is becoming an increasingly popular baby name as well, but Wrigley is still very rare.
And while we're pondering Cubs'-themed names, might we also suggest Caray, Field, Roscoe, and Maddon? It could happen.
