A woman was sexually assaulted by a man posing as a rideshare driver early Sunday morning, according to a disturbing police alert issued over the weekend.

The 21-year-old woman used a ride-sharing application (police did not specify whether it was Lyft, Uber or another app) to call a car to pick her up between the 3300 and 3500 blocks of North Halsted Street in Lakeview, according to police. A man posing as a ride-share driver picked her up and took her to her destination around 2 a.m.

After arriving at the destination, the man "lured her back into the vehicle by convincing her she forgot something," police wrote. The man then drove off with the woman still in the car, and sexually assaulted her in the rear seat of the car.

The man was described by police as 40-45 years old, with a heavy build (estimated 300 lbs) and tan skin, a round face with a white, stubbly beard, bushy black eyebrows, short black hair, and a heavy accent. He waas wearing a black windbreaker at the time of the assault.

The car was described as a beige/tan or white, 1995-2005 small four-door vehicle, possibly a Toyota Camry or Corolla. Police recommend ride-share app users avoid getting into cars without verifying the driver's ride-sharing information first.
