Former Illinois House Representative Aaron Schock is expected to face a federal indictment Thursday as part of an investigation into how he spent his office budget and campaign funds.
Schock’s attorney has given no details thus far but said it would “look bad,” the Chicago Tribune reports .
Schock resigned from his post serving the 18th Congressional District amid multiple scandals surrounding lavish spending habits in March of 2015. Among them include spending thousands of dollars on staff trips and private chartered flights and an incredibly ostentatious redesign of his Washington, DC office to resemble a room from the PBS show Downton Abbey.
Schock’s attorney, George Terwilliger, tried to downplay the allegations.
"These charges are the culmination of an effort to find something, anything, to take down Aaron Schock,” said Terwilliger, who also said federal prosecutors were throwing “made-up allegations of criminal activating arising from unintentional errors” at his client.
According to remarks from a consulting firm that represents Schock given to Politico, the disgraced Congressman also said he did "nothing wrong."
"As I have said before, we might have made errors among a few of the thousands and thousands of financial transactions we conducted, but they were honest mistakes — no one intended to break any law. We worked tirelessly in my office to serve the constituents of this district and I will always be proud of that fact."
