Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers last night to chat about her new memoir TRANNY: Confessions Of Punk Rock's Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout. One of Meyers' first questions was related to the book's title, prompting Grace to divulge why she employed a word she personally "hates." It's not all heavy though, since Grace goes on to share just how unimpressed her daughter is with the rock and roll lifestyle.

Grace, who is now based in Chicago, also discusses some of the dodgier venues she's played over the years, admitting that "the gnarliest venues—those are the best shows because kids go off, and that's what you want." Grace also talks about making Against Me! shows a safe space.

Peronally though, we found the most touching part of the interview to be the focus on Grace's going back through her old journals while writing the book, and being able to trace her journey from a period when she didn't have the right words to describe it. She also points out just how useless most high school sex ed classes can be.

Grace's appearance was primarily to promote the book, but Against Me! did just recently put out a new album, Shape Shift With Me. The disc is full of the kind of fiery punk anthems we've come to expect from Grace and her crew, resulting in one of our favorite albums of 2016.

So we were happy to see she brought the whole band out to play the group's most recent single "333" to close out the show.
