A four-year-old boy was shot and flying glass injured a three-year-old girl in a shooting on Tuesday night in Brighton Park. The children were with two teenagers, who were also both shot, police said.
One of the victims was pumping fuel at a gas station in the 3500 block of South California Avenue at around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday night when someone in a dark SUV pulled up and fired on the group, Officer Laura Amezaga, a police spokesperson, told Chicagoist.
The four-year-old boy was grazed by gunfire on the left forearm; and the three-year-old girl was cut on the face by shattered glass but was not shot. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital and listed in stable condition. An 18-year-old man was wounded in the right hand in the shooting, also. He was listed in stable condition at Mt. Sinai. And a 17-year-old boy was taken to the same hospital after he was critically wounded in the back.
According to ABC7, activist Andrew Holmes told reporters the group’s car was "riddled with bullets” and “they are very, very lucky these kids are still living."
