Just as it did over the Labor Day break, Chicago just logged another incredibly deadly long holiday weekend. This Thanksgiving weekend was the bloodiest in years.

Including the three people fatally shot by police over the weekend, eleven people were killed and 62 more were wounded, according to Tribune data. As the paper points out, it’s a staggering jump from the most recent prior years: in 2014, five were killed and 14 were wounded; and in 2015, eight people were killed and 20 were wounded.

In one incident, on Sunday night, police fatally shot a man, identified in news reports as Richard Grimes, 36, in West Garfield Park. He had shot a 24-year-old pregnant woman, according to police. ABC7 reports that the shooter was the victim’s boyfriend, and the woman’s unborn child was killed.

Grimes' sister, Nicole Brady, said Grimes was depressed and snapped before the shooting. "He wanted the baby. Everybody wanted the baby. He wanted the baby. 100 percent wanted the baby. It was just like a snap, a depression," Brady said, according to ABC7.

There have been four fatal police shootings within the last nine days. Nineteen-year-old Kajuan Raye was fatally shot in the back on Wednesday night. Police said Raye was armed, but no gun was recovered from the scene. The sergeant who shot Raye has been relieved of police powers, authorities said. The People's Response Team released a statement on Monday in which the anti-police-violence organization criticized police and local officials for selective transparency when it comes to police shootings.
