Seven students became sick at a South Shore school this morning after ingesting an "unknown substance," according to Chicago Public Schools.
"School staff responded promptly this morning after several students were observed ingesting an unknown substance. School officials contacted 911, and emergency services providers responded to evaluate the situation," a CPS spokesman said in a statement. Several students were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, but no serious health concerns have been raised by CPS so far. The school system is investigating what happened.
The children reportedly consumed a "homemade narcotic" according to WLS, while at the South Shore Fine Arts Academy on East 70th Street Friday morning.
