Two Chicago craft breweries leasing space in a Logan Square spot have shut down after losing the lease on the spot. Ale Syndicate was leasing the brewery at 2601 W. Diversey Ave. and sharing the space with Arcade Brewery.

Arcade Brewery is closing up shop, the Tribune reports, but Ale Syndicate may be looking for another place to go. Ale Syndicate reportedly was not paying its rent, and Arcade Brewery was only able to operate because of an arrangement with Ale Syndicate, according to founder Chris Tourre. But Ale Syndicate had been struggling to keep up with its expenses, and the Illinois Liquor Control Commission told the Tribune that Ale Syndicate's last state brewing license expired in April, and that it cannot apply to be relicensed just yet because of unpaid taxes.

Arcade Brewery was one of three breweries that has shared space with Ale Syndicate in its Logan Square locations. The breweries were all able to operate through an Alternating Proprietorship, or Alt Prop for short, which allows multiple individual breweries to brew inside one building that is owned or leased by a single brewery.

Ale Syndicate came into being after brothers Samuel Evans and Jesse Edwin Evans renamed New Chicago Brewing Company and found a home in Logan Square. The brothers had previous experience running and selling Lucky Hand, a brewery in California.
