Police Warn Of Burglars Breaking Into Businesses Via Their Roofs

Police are warning of burglars breaking into businesses via their rooftops on the Far South Side.

In an alert issued over the weekend, police said burglars were climbing onto the rooftops of businesses in Roseland, in the 5th Police District, entering the businesses and stealing merchandise. The crime pattern has been going on for months, according to the alert, with at least six break-ins taking place between Oct. 12 and Dec. 2.

The crimes were reported at the following times and locations:

•The 11100 block of South Michigan Avenue, Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 a.m.
•The 11100 block of South Michigan Avenue, Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 2:15 a.m.
•The 11100 block of South Michigan Avenue, Friday, Nov. 18, between 4:43 a.m. and 7:02 a.m.
•The 11300 block of South Wentworth Avenue, Saturday, Nov. 19, at 5:30 a.m.
•The 11100 block of South Michigan Avenue, Monday, Nov. 21 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00
a.m. Nov. 22.
•The 11100 block of South Michigan Avenue, Thursday, Dec. 1 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. Dec. 2.

Police recommend that crime victims call 911 to report suspicious people and activity immediately, get witnesses' contact information, secure their buildings, make sure that the buildings have proper lightning and working alarm systems, and provide the 911 call taker with a detailed description of any assailants and where they may have fled to.
