Humboldt Park Is Getting A Fancy Climbing Gym In The Spring

The upscale, local chain of climbing gyms First Ascent is bringing their latest outpost to Humboldt Park in the new year, the company announced Monday.

Climbing gyms are all the rage right now, with Brooklyn Boulders in the West Loop, plans for a Planet Granite on the Near North Side, and First Ascent's first two locations in Avondale and Uptown.

Slated for an 18,000 square-foot warehouse space at 2950 W. Grand Ave., First Ascent will be located just a few blocks from Humboldt Park, the park proper. The gym will boast "world-class climbing terrain" and yoga and fitness classes, starting in the Spring of 2017. There will be 10,000 square feet of bouldering terrain, where climbers can climb without a harness or other specialized gear for up to 16-feet, and a training area with campus boards, hang boards and a Moon Board, which will allow competitive climbers to practice certain techniques.

Prices at First Ascent Uptown and Avondale start at $18 for a day pass ($15 for a student) and $75 a month for a recurring monthly membership.
