Photos: Mega Mall In Logan Square Is Being Torn To Rubble Right Now

It's served as a bellwether for gentrification and canvas for gorgeous street-art murals, but right now the Mega Mall in Logan Square is quickly turning to rubble. Demolition was often delayed before crews finally started early, modest teardown work early this month. Those small steps—which included delicately salvaging terra cotta portions of the exterior—have now given way to the full wight of the wrecking ball.
Pete Conteras, a resident of Logan Square for 31 years, watched as construction crews demolished the structure at 2500 N. Milwaukee Ave. He said he hates to see the neighborhood staple go and has fond memories of shopping and eating there.
The site will be the future home of Logan's Crossing, a multi-million dollar mixed-use development that will house office space, 200-plus housing units, a Jewel, Xsport Fitness and Starbucks and zero trace of what one might call Old Logan. Keep your eyes peeled for the potential upscale not-really-replacement.
