Wrigley Field has crammed in professional hockey games and countless major concert events, so why not the ever-encroaching, corrupt arm of college football, too? That’s the plan apparently, as the Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs intend to use the Friendly Confines to host an annual bowl game in the near future.

Cubs President Crane Kenney told the Tribune that the Cubs “absolutely” plan on holding an annual bowl game, with a target start date of 2020, by which time all of the ballyhooed Wrigley-adjacent development should be complete.

Although it required some logistical jiu-jitsu, Wrigley has hosted football in the not-so-distant past, including a huge-draw Northwestern vs. Illinois matchup in 2010.

It’s not clear if a Wrigley bowl game would be new or poached from an underperformer among the roughly 6 million already existing games. (The NCAA has a moratorium on new bowl certifications until 2019, the Trib notes.)

In semi-related news, it was also announced on Wednesday that, aside from the NCAA, Wrigley Field will again play host another empirically evil entertainment endeavor: worst pop singer ever Billy Joel. “Enjoy,” Wrigleyville!
