On the morning of Donald Trump’s inauguration, former president Barack Obama and Michelle Obama asked the public to contribute their ideas and hopes for the Obama Foundation, “a living, working startup for citizenship” to be constructed on the same South Side of Chicago complex that will house the Obama’s presidential library and museum.
“Tell us what you want this project to be,” Obama said, seated next to Michelle, in a video posted to the Obama Foundation’s website on Friday.
Michelle Obama asked viewers to send in their “ideas,” “hopes” and “dreams for what we can achieve together.”
“We want you to tell us what we should be thinking about as we get to work,” Michelle said in the video, imploring the help of those who hold the most important office in the land, as Barack is fond of saying: citizen.
The former First Family again took a moment to offer thanks—and noted they’d be also taking a small break. “We want to thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts for giving us the incredible privilege of serving this country that we love,” said Barack, who also published a thank-you letter on Thursday and left the Oval Office for the final time this morning.
“We’re gonna take a little break,” “get some sleep” and “just be still for a little bit” before the work recommences, Michelle said.
You can share ideas and make donations to the Obama Foundation at obama.org.
As we look forward, I want our first steps to reflect what matters most to you. Share your thoughts with me at https://t.co/fGUxlpLVue.
