Watch Drone Footage Of Mega Mall Demolition In All Its Ruin-Porn Splendor

By Stephen Gossett in News on Jan 26, 2017 6:18PM

The destruction of Logan Square's iconic Mega Mall is captured in vivid, ruin-porn splendor in the new drone video below.

The nearly block-long structure, once full of dozens of independent retail vendors, was a neighborhood fixture for decades. After it shuttered, a group of artists blanketed the exterior with eye-popping murals in 2016. But both those histories are currently being leveled as crews make way for a large-scale, mixed-use development, one of the latest and largest signposts of gentrification in the neighborhood.

The video soars over the in-progress demolition; and the perspective is a great reminder of just how massive and—in the art-dotted parts that remain—beautiful the structure was. The site, at 2500 N. Milwaukee Ave, will house a mixed-use development that will include Jewel, Starbucks and Xsport as retail anchor tenants with residential units above.

It was filmed by Jordan Miller, founder of Way Up Creative, who is friends with some of the artists who used it as impromptu canvas, and he intended the video to be a farewell to the art, according to DNAInfo.
