Anyone who has walked past the Swedish Bakery remembers it - that giant brick building filled to the brim with delicious cakes, breads, pastries and cookies. It's been an icon of the neighborhood as long as I can remember, and at the end of February, it's closing its doors.

The Tribune reported the closing this morning. It's been in business for 88 years, and the current owners have operated it since 1979.

Rumors have swirled for months that the property was for sale, which led to the logical suspicious that the bakery might close, but no details emerged until now.

One of the reasons for the closure? Apparently goddamn millenials who don't like bakeries. Operations Officer Dennis Stanton told the Trib: "[I]t’s hard to attract millennials who are looking for a food experience. We’re pretty humdrum. We’re just a bakery.”

A bakery we will definitely miss.
