Woman Fatally Shot By Police Near North Center CVS

A woman was fatally shot by police on Friday in North Center after officers responded to a call of a woman brandishing a knife.

At around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, police received a call from a CVS store in the 3900 block of N Western Ave. that a woman wielding a knife was being “disorderly and combative,” according to police.

Responding officers confronted the woman outside the store then twice used a Taser on her but “with no effect,” police said. The woman then threatened and lunged toward police, when an officer shot, hitting her in the upper body. The woman was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Independent Review Authority is investigating, and the officers involved were placed on administrative leave for 30 days, per department policy.
