A woman's car was hijacked in the Magnificent Mile area Thursday night while she was sitting in the passenger's seat, according to police. Police followed the car to Lincoln Park, where they found another stolen car that had been crashed into a cab and a Lincoln Park shopping center sign.
The 67-year-old woman in the car, an Infiniti, was sitting in the car at 10:30 p.m. while it was running and parked in the 700 block of North Wabash Avenue. Two men with a gun got out of a nearby Chevrolet Cruze and forced the woman to get out of her car, police say. Those men fled north on Wabash Avenue in the stolen car, while a driver in the Chevy Cruze followed.
Responding police soon found the Cruze, which had been reported stolen, crashed and abandoned in the 1700 block of North Clybourn Avenue, where it appeared to have struck a cab, light pole and shopping center sign, according to ABC7. There was a handgun left in the car on the driver's side.
Police are still investigating the crime and trying to locate the stolen Infiniti; no one is in custody as of Friday morning, according to police.
