Keke Collier, a 24-year-old woman, was fatally shot in Englewood Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
Collier, whom friends identified as trans, was found lying in the street with gunshot wounds to the chest, arm and hand, according to police, in the 7300 block of South May Street around 6:14 a.m. She was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital, where she was pronounced.
Police, who initially misgendered Collier, are still investigating the shooting's circumstances, according to WLS. They say a black, male suspect with dreadlocks and a black hoodie fled from the scene of the shooting in a red car.
Collier's friend Shasha Lauren told Mic that Collier may have gotten into a car with the man who later shot her. Lauren and others posted messages in mourning of Collier on Facebook in the wake of the shooting, and some also posted messages in remembrance of T.T. Saffore, a trans woman who was brutally killed in Chicago in September. Collier death is considered the fourth homicide of a trans woman in the U.S. so far this year.
Friend posted photos and video from last night's candlelight vigil for Collier, who also went by the name Tiara Richmond, on Facebook:
