Seven people were fatally shot and six more people were wounded in shootings across the city on Wednesday, according the Sun-Times. It's the highest single-day death toll of the year in Chicago so far in 2017. Four previous days this year saw five deadly shootings each, according to the paper's data.

Among those shot and killed on Wednesday were a pregnant woman in her 20s, in Chatham, and a 60-year-old man who was gunned down in his garage, in Little Village.

The as-yet-unidentified woman was shot in the abdomen and side at around 8:15 p.m. in the 7600 block of S champlain Ave. A man, 20, was found by police shot in the neck in a nearby car, according to police. Both victims were pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, police said.

In Little Village, officers responded to a call at about 7:26 a.m. after a family member found a 60-year-old man unresponsive on the garage floor. Hospital officials at Mt. Sinai found that he had been shot in the back, neck and mouth, according to police. According to various reports, family identified the man as Jose Correa and described him as a family man who had no enemies and was simply on his way to work.
