Film festivals, parody theater and more are bringing us into March this week.

MONDAY FEBRUARY 27

CHICAGO FIRE KICKOFF LUNCHEON: Help the Chicago Fire kickoff the 2017 season, and possibly even dine with one of the players at Hyatt Regency’s Grand Ballroom. The luncheon will benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation which gives back to the underserved community with sports-based programming for youth. Reception begins at 11 a.m. Early bird tickets start at $90 per person.

THROWBACK TASTING: Saved By The Max is counting down the days before they close up shop and head out on tour, but first they’re throwing a Class of ‘88 Throwback Tasting and Discussion with Goose Island. Greg Hall leads the talk and Brian Fisher’s menu completes the evening. Tickets are $35.


TUESDAY FEBRUARY 28: FAT TUESDAY

MARDI GRAS COCKTAIL CLASS: MONEYGUN and Saint Lou’s Assembly launch four-part educational cocktail making series on this Fat Tuesday at 7 p.m. Try your hand at three Mardi Gras themed cocktails guided by expert bartenders and enjoy food pairings including Etouffe Parfait, Gumbo Ya Ya and beignets. Tickets are $75.

ASIAN POP UP CINEMA FILM FESTIVAL: Now through May 3, the Asian Pop Up Cinema Film Festival screens films from China, Hong Kong, Inner Mongolia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Tibet and Vietnam. 18 films make up the lineup, including the World Premiere of Goddesses in Taiwan Cinema, a retrospective of six (6) digitally restored movies starring legendary Taiwanese leading actresses from the 1960s through the early 21st century. WINE TASTING: Play "Sommelier for a Day" at III Forks’ Pacific Northwest Wine Tasting from 5 to 7 p.m. Sample six different wines from the region and vote for your favorite to be featured for the month of March. FEMINIST FILM FESTIVAL: Columbia College hosts the Second Annual Chicago Feminist Film Festival this Wednesday through Friday. The free film fest screens 57 films by women, people of color, and transgender filmmakers. Wednesday’s opening night feature is all-female-directed horror anthology XX, which includes the directorial debut of musician St. Vincent. THURSDAY MARCH 2

GREEK WINE DINNER: Publican Quality Meats hosts Yasou!, a family-style Greek Wine Dinner at 7:30 p.m. Chef de Cuisine Joe Frietze and Partner/Sommelier Eduard Seitan worked with winemakers, Paris Sigalas and Angelo Iatrides to create a five-course Mediterranean menu paired with Domaine Sigalas wines. FRIDAY MARCH 3

SPAMILTON: Every great production deserves a parody, and Spamilton is here to give Hamilton it’s due. The Off-Broadway hit “celebrates, roasts and eviscerates” the Tony Award winning blockbuster. The show, created by Gerard Alessandrini ("Forbidden Broadway") will run for 12 weeks only at Royal George Theatre. Tickets start at $59.

FUNNY HA HA: Get “Warm and Fuzzy” at this episode of Funny Ha Ha hosted by Claire Zulkey at the Hideout. The live lit show features readings from Miss Spoken Co-Founder Carly Oishi, Second City's Pat Reidy, Huffington Post's Kim Bellware and many more. Entry is a $10 suggested donation at the door benefiting Sit Stay Read.

LGBTQ HISTORY: The Chicago History Museum’s LGBTQ series, Out at CHM, steps into “Art, AIDS and Activism” at this week’s panel discussion. Hear how art has been used to speak out about the AIDS pandemic, advocate for its victims and critique public response from experts at SAIC, University of Illinois and Papi Project. Reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with panel discussion following at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.

NOT SO SWEET 16 PARTY: Fireside Bowl will be the place to celebrate the end of the year that took Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen and others from us. FLOOD Magazine is throwing a party to kiss 2016 good bye with DJ sets from Greg Corner, Derek Berry and free bowling. RSVP for free entry and a free Deep Eddy cocktail. 8 p.m. to midnight.
