A woman in Wrigleyville was forced into the trunk of her own car by an armed carjacker on Thursday night, according to police. The offender kept her there as he drove south until he ultimately crashed into a tree, more than an hour later, police said.
The victim, 24, was in the backyard of an apartment building in the 3700 block of North Fremont Street when she was forced into the trunk of her Mazda at about 8:20 p.m. The man drove to several spots before he eventually hit a tree in 11500 block of South Throop Street, more than 20 miles away from the apartment, at around 9:55 p.m., according to police.
The woman was able to get out after the man fled from the crash. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with minor injuries.
Police do not have anyone in custody as of Friday morning.
