Hanson Is MMMMBoping Their Way To Chicago

C'mon, everyone loves Hanson.
Allow me to share a personal memory with you, straight from the deep realm of Bucktown/Wicker park indie rock. When Hanson's single "MMMBop" was released into the world, one of its first vessels was a CMJ Music magazine sampler, basically imbuing the "college rock" stamp of approval on the song. Here was the sound of the Jackson 5 channeled into a new generation. I would play the tune while DJing at Danny's (before it was rehabbed, back when it was a rock and roll house party every night) and the room would erupt.
Years later I saw Tinted Windows at Double Door, a power-pop supergroup fronted by a Hanson, and the number of sharp elbows thrown by soccer moms at anyone trying to block their view proved that the Hanson allure was still strong.
The boys are no longer precocious teenagers (they even have their own beer now). Hell, maybe I'm so old I'm one of the few that actually remembers them as teenagers and pre-teens. Their debut album came our 20 years ago, and the band formed 25 years ago. So to celebrate those two milestones Hanson is taking to the road and releasing a greatest hits album.
The band is coming to Chicago to play House Of Blues on Oct. 7. Grab tickets starting March 18 and get your MMMBob on.
