A 3 year-old-boy was critically wounded Thursday during a "cops and robbers"-style game between children with a loaded gun in a rundown apartment in Englewood, according to the police.
Police officers responded to a call to the boy's home, in the 6200 block of South Aberdeen Street, around 5 p.m. Thursday, where they found the boy and three other young children unsupervised. They also recovered a handgun and drugs from the home.
Police Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi Tweeted that the situation was "A travesty. Kids left in deplorable conditions alone were playing cops and robbers." He also noted that police found a "sizable" amount of drugs in the home.

Police said the mother appeared to have a firearm owner identification card, meaning she legally owned the handgun used in the shooting. The boys parents are in police custody, but have not been charged with a crime at this time, according to the Tribune.
The Tribune reports that the home had numerous housing cod violations, and it appeared to lack hot water or heating.
