If you've ever seen the video of Rahm's extended hand being greeted with ice-cold dismissal or the endlessly hilarious photo of him getting blasted with a shofar, you know that it's not uncommon for the mayor to be met with expert shade and first-degree sick burns. But it's still really, really funny when it happens.
It happened again on Tuesday in Humboldt Park, where Emanuel was on hand to unveil the honorary street sign for Cubs defensive-magician infielder and Puerto Rican native Javier Baez. He was about to address the crowd when they suddenly started chanting in unison "Javy! Javy! Javy!" Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th Ward) stepped in to defuse, offering his best imitation of a scolding parent: "We are Puerto Ricans and we learn at a young age that when we invite somebody to our home... we show respect." The crowd offers a perfunctory cheer—which then immediately turns into hilarious, robust Bronx cheer.
There's a few clips floating around, but Mina Bloom's (DNAinfo) has the best vantage point we've seen. Enjoy!
