This morning Riot Fest announced eight of the ten groups that will be playing noteworthy albums from their career at the music festival this fall. Cheekily dubbed "Championship Vinyl Top 10 Riot Fest Albums" as a wink to the fictional record store in High Fidelity, the initial list has some exciting planned performances.
We admit we've grown a little weary of the "classic" album format in general, especially when tagged to reunion tours, but Riot Fest seems to always spur groups to do something a little unexpected. We're excited at the prospect of being blown away by the guitar fury of Dinosaur Jr.'s You’re Living All Over Me, an album whose tour we were a little too young to have seen in person at the time. Especially when the band could have gone for something more obviously crowd pleasing like Without A Sound.
The prospect of seeing Fishbone perform their mindblowing 1988 release Truth And Soul, an album captured at the peak of the funk-punk-ska glory, is truly exciting. And Built To Spill's Keep It Like A Secret saw the band at the peak crossroads of indie rock intimacy and arena rock epic guitar god workouts.
And this fan honestly never though he'd see that dog. perform again, and especially not their
classic Retreat From The Sun.
The full list so far includes:
Dinosaur Jr. - You’re Living All Over Me
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Let’s Face It
Built To Spill - Keep It Like A Secret
Fishbone - Truth and Soul
Bayside - The Walking Wounded
Mayday Parade - A Lesson In Romantics
The Lawrence Arms - Oh, Calcutta!
that dog. — Retreat From The Sun
