A person was struck and killed by a Metra train in La Grange on Thursday morning, according to Metra and news reports.
The 1208 inbound train on the BNSF hit the person on Thursday morning between 6:20 and 6:30 a.m. and east of the Western Springs station, Metra spokesman Tom Miller told Chicagoist.
Authorities have not yet released information about the victim.
The incident caused "extensive delays" on inbound and outbound trains along the BNSF on Thursday, Miller said. Some delays were as long as two hours. As of 9:25 a.m., one of the three tracks along the line was in operation.
At around 7 a.m., Metra urged customers to consider alternate means of transportation. At around 9 a.m., Metra tweeted that the BNSF and UPW lines were still experiencing significant delays or late arrivals.
.@metraBNSF riders: we encourage you to use alternate transportation if its available to you this morning. Extensive delays are anticipated.
