A woman was shot in the stomach by two robbers just after midnight Thursday while trying to keep them from getting her purse on her walk home.

The woman 55, encountered the robbers while walking in the 5400 block of North Chester Avenue in the O'Hare neighborhood at 12:20 a.m., according to police. The robbers demanded she give them her purse and in the ensuing struggle, one shot her with a handgun. The woman was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition. The robbers escaped via a getaway car with a driver.

The woman was among at least six shootings overnight Wednesday to Thursday, including two men who were shot on a Dan Ryan Expressway ramp near Chinatown Wednesday evening. The man was killed and another man was wounded in the 5:10 p.m. shooting, according to police, at the Dan Ryan's Cermak Road exit ramp.

The man, whom the Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified to the Tribune as Jeremy Scullark, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. Apparently two police officers en route to the scene of the shooting Wednesday evening were injured in a crash involving two other people near 31st Street and Shields Avenue. One officer was listed as in serious condition, the other in good condition. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi Tweeted that other officers responding to the shooting were able to question persons of interest.

Other shooting victims included a 39-year-old man shot in the leg in Hermosa, a 17-year-old shot in the abdomen and arm in East Garfield Park in a drive-by shooting, and a 20-year-old man who received a graze wound in West Pullman, according to the Tribune.
