Adopt A Dog For Free This Sunday At Two Local Shelters

If it weren't for those irritating lease restrictions, our apartments would basically look an urban version of the Old Friends sanctuary. But if you have room in your residence (room in hearts goes without saying), then you'll probably want to clear the calendar for Sunday, April 30. Two Chicago-area rescues are waiving adoption fees for eligible dogs in recognition of Adopt a Shelter Pet Day (otherwise known as the greatest day of the year).
Chicago Canine Rescue and One Tail at a Time will both participate in the fee-free adoption event. One Tail at a Time will be waiving fees for all dogs throughout the weekend. The puppo push is sponsored by Barkworthies, a provider of all-natural treats and chews. "At Barkworthies, we’ve seen first-hand how life-changing animal rescue can be, not just for pets but for their owners as well,” said Avrum Elmakis, CEO & Co-Founder, in a release. True spit.
That said, you'll need to start getting your wish list set ahead of the weekend. You can take a look at One Tail's available doggos here. Options include a pointer named Cheyanne, who survived a gunshot to the leg, and a yellow lab hound that sports a cape and goes by the name Amanda Hugginkiss (seriously). And the rundown of sponsored dogs for Chicago Canine Rescue is available online also (Shouts to bros Bentley and Bruiser.)
Both shelters require applications to be submitted ahead of adoptions. Those are available here for One Tail and here for CCR.
And if you just can't make it until Sunday, PAWS Chicago adoption center (1997 N. Clybourn Ave.) will hosting their Spring Adopt-A-Thon on Friday and Saturday. There aren't any fee waivers, according to press materials, but the shelter will have extended adoption hours during the marathon push to find forever homes for more than 100 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.
