Ex-One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles is releasing his self-titled solo debut on May 12, and with that comes the obligatory promotional tour. And we can't wait.

Unlike many "boy band" singers that strike out on their own, we are very excited about Styles' chances of making his mark beyond his tenure in 1D. We'll get our chance to see Styles perform live this fall when he comes to The Chicago Theatre on Sept. 26.

Why are we excited? Styles' first single, "Sign Of The Times," is a nearly six-minute, multi-part, throbbing slab of glam with more in common with David Bowie than any sonic trends of the minute. His appearance a few weeks ago on Saturday Night Live showed that he can carry the weight of the spotlight falling only upon him, with a performance that certainly exceeded my expectations. (And his acting chops in that appearance weren't too shabby either.)

Tickets for Styles' Chicago show will be hard to come by; and Styles and his team are trying to avoid fans getting displaced by scaplers. So if you want your chance, you'll have to start by becoming a Verified Fan here. Actual tickets go on sale on May 5.

Hm, I wonder if we'll see Styles around town at any of the places his old bandmates might suggest to him.
