A 23-year-old man was arrested after stabbing a passenger at random on the CTA Red Line train on Sunday morning, according to police.

A man, 50, was seated on a southbound train on Sunday morning, just north of the Addison station, in the 900 block of West Addison Street. At around 8 a.m, a 23-year-old man came up to the passenger "while menacingly waving a small knife," then stabbed him in the left hip.

The attacker tried to flee at the Addison station when the train stopped, but responding police officers were able to arrest him after a brief foot chase.

The victim was treated by fire department personnel at the scene and turned down further medical attention. The attacker is in custody and charges are pending, police said.
