Two Chicago police officers were wounded Monday night after a third officer shot at a charging dog and bullet fragments from the shot ricocheted, hitting them.
One officer was shot in the leg and the other was shot in the foot in the aftermath of the shooting, which took place in the 3600 block of South Wolcott Avenue in McKinley Park around 6:50 p.m. Police said the dog was "vicious" and charged at the officers, and died after it was shot. Both officers are in good condition, but were taken to local hospitals to be checked out.
The Chicago Police Department is describing what happened as an accident.
