Police are searching for the people responsible for a South Loop carjacking earlier this week—the latest in a number of carjackings around the city in recent months.

According to a recent police alert, on May 16 in the early morning, around 1:40 a.m., two men in their 20s, a 27 year old and a 28 year old, were standing near their cars, parked in the 2200 block of South Wabash Avenue. Two or three unknown carjackers armed with guns pulled up in a Silver Jeep Cherokee, according to police, and demanded the men's cars and other belongings. According to police the robbers were black men wearing masks.

At that point, the 27-year-old man tried to run, and one of the robbers shot him. The shooting victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in stable condition. The robber fled in the man's 2006 Blue BMW 4 Door car. The license plate number is ZZ23656.
