More than three dozen people were shot over a violent weekend in Chicago. Four people were fatally struck and at least 35 more were wounded, according to the Tribune.
The most recent fatal shooting happened on Sunday afternoon. An 18-year-old man was shot in the back in 100 block of North Parkside Avenue, in Austin, at about 2:39 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old boy was also shot in the shin. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and listed in good condition. Police said the teen was not cooperative with officers.
Also, three men were wounded in a shooting outside Zachary's for Cocktails (5368 N. Milwaukee Ave.), in Jefferson Park early on Sunday after a fight broke out, according to police and reports. All three were taken to hospitals and listed in stable condition, police said.
Despite the bloody weekend, gun violence remains down compared to last year, in terms of homicides and shooting victims. This time last year, there were 245 homicides, compared to 228 in 2017; and 1,391 people were shot as of May 22 last year, compared to 1,278, the Tribune reports.
