In Illinois right now, a gallon of unleaded gas will cost you an average of $2.40, according to AAA data. That's a historically low price—the lowest we've seen at this time of year for more than a decade, the Tribune reports.

Gas prices in Illinois were last this low in early June in 2005, a AAA rep told the Tribune. Thank low demand and an absence of Illinois' typical springtime refinery issues.

Illinois' average price for an unleaded gallon is still slightly above the national average—$2.38 per gallon. Cook County's average gas price is actually quite a bit above the national average: $2.64 per gallon, AAA reports.

Still, that just gives you all the more reason to road trip out of state (or just county) in search of even cheaper gas-pastures. Here are some weekend trips we recommend.
