Photos: This Rare Beachfront South Shore Home Could Be Yours

Few Chicago homes have private access to Lake Michigan, so it's especially rare for one to come on the market. Enter this South Shore home at 7237 S. South Shore Dr., which was listed a little over a week ago with a $504,900 asking price.

The half-a-million dollar home has seen better days, as evidenced by its beat up wood floors and bathroom tile. But it does have some redeeming features, beyond its beachfront lake access: the home, built in 1905, features four bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms and a finished attic. The house is just a couple blocks from the South Shore Metra station.

The home is being sold "as-is," meaning any hidden problems are the buyer's problem; but on the upside, it could also mean the sellers are eager to make a deal. According to property records, the asking price may be worth it; The house was last sold in October of 2007, (not long before the recession) for $1.2 million. Nonetheless, the property taxes are relatively low right now, at $4,361 a year. The house has been on and off the market since then.
