Watch Vic Mensa Tear Into 'War In Chiraq' Creator For Sensationalizing Violence

The "Chiraq" sensationalization has a long tail. On the same day that Chance the Rapper reminded the world of his distaste for the film of the same name, his fellow Savemoney vet Vic Mensa appeared on Complex's morning show where he schooled and ripped DJ Akademiks—who built his reputation on the controversial "War in Chiraq" YouTube series about the Chicago drill scene.
With some mix of self-preserving passivity or lack of self-awareness, DJ Akademiks asks, at about the 12:40 minute mark, about Mensa's feelings toward those who hyped drill from outside the city without having the perspective of knowing Chicago's real-life violence.
Mensa's reply:
“I wanted to slap you in your face, honestly. And I'm just seeing you here so I'm like this is a tame environment, so I would keep it to my words, but I really felt as if people exactly like you sensationalized and made a following off of clowning situations that we go through in real life. And I think n***as ain't have no right—you specifically. You ain't ever have a right. What made you feel like you had a space to have a perspective on our people dying on a daily basis?"
DJ Akademiks then jumps in to offer a defense, saying he aimed to "give a different perspective" amid the post-Chief Keef, post-Lil Durk hype cycle that was spinning full bore at the time of the series launch, and that the content in his videos wasn't solely negative.
Mensa wasn't buying that either.
"There was nothing constructive about it," Mensa retorts."To tell you the truth, I really think you're a b****h."
He then takes Akademiks to task specifically over his video about the late Tray 57, a friend of Mensa's.
"I've known [him] since I was five years old, and to see you come on the internet with this corny ass little voice and make jokes about it. I was waiting to see you," he said. Watch the full clip above.
